Abstract

Healthcare is becoming the most important requirement for a better life. The main challenges in the healthcare industry are managing medical records, protecting, and diagnosing patient data safely and accurately, ensuring correct processes and preventing drug abuse.

Blockchain technology is the best approach to tackling these issues. Blockchain is crucial in decentralized data distribution to protect and diagnose patient information and warning announcements about prescription drug abuse issues.

Target audience

Blockchain technology may sound new to people. Even though people may have heard of this term, they may not know what blockchain is about or what blockchain benefits, specifically blockchain's role in the healthcare system. Not only should people working in the healthcare industry learn about blockchain technology, but people from any generation should also learn about blockchain. Hence, people can use blockchain technology efficiently to make the world safer and more developed.

Problem statement

Current methods and software to protect patient medical records are still unsafe. People can easily steal other people’s personal health information. In addition, people can fake documents to overuse prescription drugs. Hospitals can diagnose wrong data for their patient if their computer system has problems. The most currently used software in hospitals stores patient data in internal medical histories or external resources.

Background

Blockchain is one of the emerging technologies in recent years. However, the concept is still new and unfamiliar to people.

Blockchain technology definition

Blockchain technology stores continuously growing healthcare databases. Each data set is in a block immutably. When a blockchain system diagnoses patient data, the blockchain will quickly take the order to transfer secure data to the request.

Blockchain stores every interaction under its system. Blockchain adds new data as a copy to a decentralized place like a ledger, which helps people recognize repeated interactions like earlier prescription transactions (Becher).

Most current ways of storing and diagnosing patient data

Most hospitals and clinics use hospital management software (HMS) or electronic health record software (EHR) to digitally store patient information and prescription data in a single place, where they can access it internally. The software works similarly to customer relationship management (CRM), a management technology between a company and its customers, having data and interactions (Patel).
